Controller Offline
updated March 2023
What does it mean when your controller (Gateway) goes offline?
There are two connection points on the controller (Gateway): the ethernet cable and the power cord. This state indicates that connection has been lost with at least one of those points and the controller is no longer receiving internet, power, or both.
Reasons why a controller might offline:
- Home lost power
- Home lost internet connection
- Home had a temporary loss of connection similar to what happens with your wifi
Why is this important?
The controller is responsible for processing and sending data from the sensors to the cloud. It is this function that allows customers to access real-time data straight from their mobile apps. When the home is in a Controller Offline state, we do not have access to any data for that home for as long as connection is lost to the controller. Essentially, we are completely blind for however long that controller is offline.
That being said, having your controller offline does not directly affect the operation of your appliances. However, if the reason that your controller is offline is because you lost power to the home, then you might have an issue.
How can I bring my controller back online?
- Make sure that the home has access to both internet and power.
- Locate the Shipshape controller. It can be found next to the internet router
- Check that the Shipshape controller has not been unplugged from either the power source or internet. If it has been unplugged, please plug the cable(s) back in.
- If the cables are plugged in and the home has access to both the internet and power, the controller can be rebooted.
a. Unplug the power cable (not the ethernet cable) from the controller for 30 seconds.
b. Plug the power cable back into the controller.
c. Allow approximately 10 minutes for the controller to come back online.
